Taylor Morrison Home Corp. is one of the busiest home builders in Central Texas. The Arizona-based company has projects spanning the Austin area, from the La Cima master-planned community in San Marcos to more than 1,300 new homes in Hutto.

In recent years, the homebuilder has also helped build out Community First Village, which provides hyper-affordable tiny homes for people experiencing homelessness. It has also partnered with HomeAid Austin —Taylor Morrison works with the national organization as well — to help build and renovate facilities, including a benefit home and a resource center in the Austin area.

In Austin, 2,506 people were experiencing homelessness during the 2020 point in time count. Of the people counted, 932 were sleeping in shelters or transitional housing.

Citywide, affordable housing remains a huge hurdle. A recent report on the city’s affordable housing situation painted a grim picture, with the majority of Austin’s districts pacing far behind goals for building enough affordable units by 2028.
